Matthew 6:25-34
Do not worry?
That is all? In a broken and terrifying world, the wisdom we are given is "Do not worry?"
Remember who this comes from. This is from the greatest human rights advocate that every lived, someone who truly knows and cares for each of us. Jesus recognises the problems in this life, and knows which we need to worry about.
Seek God first
If seeking God and His kingdom dominates our life then we know we have a responsibility to chase justice and equality. These things do matter! Jesus is not undercutting the importance of the issues in our world.
Food, Fashion, Fitness, and Future
Jesus is not saying we shouldn't care, He is simply saying we should stress and hold up these things as all important. A life chasing these is a life incompatible with God. The only thing we should chase is God's way. We shouldn't chase the false gods of success and comfort - it is a waste of time! Our time is better spent engaging in our relationship with God.
Why worry when we are precious to God, a God who cares and provides for all those whom He loves. He will give us what we need. The antidote to worry is to trust completely in God.
What matters to God
Be careful not to seek after God for prosperity and wealth. Try not to use God to control your future. What matters to God are the things we need. The things that will build our trust in Him and align our lives to His kingdom, so that it can continue to be built.
Kingdom and Righteousness
These two big stones are what we must put first, else they won't be our focus at all. Anything else can come second, and will fill in around God's kingdom and His righteousness. Everything else is unproductive and causes great worry in our lives. We should only worry about putting God first and knowing Him.
